Have questions about how Aireshield works, installation, or performance?
This FAQ covers everything you need to know about upgrading your HVAC system into an active air purification solution.

1. General Overview

Q: How does Aireshield work?

A: It creates a confined plasma field that interacts with airborne particles, disrupting contaminants and causing smaller particles to cluster (agglomerate), making them easier to capture.

Q: Does Aireshield produce ozone?

A: No. Aireshield is UL 2998 verified zero ozone, meaning it does not generate harmful ozone as a byproduct.

Q: Does it really improve filtration efficiency?

A: Yes. When paired with a standard filter, Aireshield enhances particle capture without increasing static pressure.

Q: What contaminants does Aireshield address?

Aireshield neutralizes and reduces:

  • Viruses (including SARS-CoV-2 surrogates)
  • Bacteria and mold spores
  • Smoke and fine particles (PM2.5)
  • Common allergens such as pollen and dander

Third-party testing verifies >99% neutralization of representative airborne pathogens.

3. Installation & Compatibility

Q: How is Aireshield installed?

A: It installs directly into your HVAC system like a standard 1″ filter and connects to power. Most installations take about 30 minutes.

Q: Will it work with my HVAC system?

A: Aireshield is designed to fit standard residential HVAC systems and works with a wide range of configurations.

Q: Do I still need a regular filter?

A: Aireshield can be used as a standalone 1-inch filter, but it performs best when installed upstream of a standard filter (MERV 8, MERV 13, etc.). This setup maximizes air disinfection and filtration efficiency.

Q. Will Aireshield increase energy use?

No. By enabling higher filtration performance without restricting airflow, Aireshield often lowers energy consumption compared to HEPA or very high-MERV filters. Many users report measurable HVAC efficiency gains and reduced fan energy.

4. Maintenance & Longevity

Q: How often does Aireshield need maintenance?

A: It is washable and reusable. Cleaning is typically recommended twice per year.

Q: How long does it last?

A: Aireshield is designed with quality and long life in mind, with an expected lifespan of up to 10 years with proper maintenance.

Q. What sizes and systems are supported?

Aireshield fits standard 1-inch residential HVAC filter slots. For commercial systems, it can pair with 2–6 inch filter tracks, and multiple units can be daisy-chained for larger RTUs and AHUs. A standard 24″×24″ Aireshield module typically draws less than 12 watts of power.

Q. Does Aireshield meet industry standards?

Yes. Aireshield testing follows ASHRAE 52.2 and supports ASHRAE 241 standards for controlling infectious aerosols. It also carries safety certifications including UL 2998 (ozone-free) and CSA 22.2 No. 187.
